About HVAC Rated

HVAC Rated exists because comparing heat pumps should not take an afternoon of downloading spreadsheets.

Every certified heat pump has public efficiency ratings, but they are scattered across certification databases built for contractors and manufacturers. Retail listings quote the best-case number for a system you may not be buying, and “best of” lists cover a dozen models out of thousands.

This site puts all 4,086 ENERGY STAR certified outdoor units - 283,268 certified indoor/outdoor combinations from 256 brands - into one place, ranks them within their size class, and adds the numbers that matter when you are deciding: capacity at 5°F, certified matchups, and what a unit costs to run where you live.

Independence

We do not sell equipment, take payment from manufacturers or rank models by anything other than their certified ratings. The site is funded by advertising, which never affects the data or the order of any list.

Corrections

Ratings are copied from the EPA's records without editing. If something looks wrong, tell us at [email protected] and we will check it against the source. See data and methodology for how the numbers are processed.
